The workshop was designed to provide NSN employees with a clearer understanding of ESG while connecting increasingly specific client requirements with the activities NSN is currently undertaking in industrial construction, energy, and project operations.

From Client Requirements to NSN’s Sustainability Journey

In recent years, businesses, particularly Japanese manufacturers, have placed increasing emphasis on environmental, social, and governance factors throughout their supply chains. This has also led to more specific requirements for contractors and project implementation partners.

Issues such as energy consumption, occupational safety, waste management, construction materials, and energy-saving solutions are gradually becoming important considerations when clients select and evaluate suppliers.

Against this backdrop, the “Sustainable Development at NSN” Workshop focused on one core question: Where is NSN on its sustainability journey, and what does the Company need to prepare for future requirements?

Rather than approaching ESG from a theoretical perspective, the workshop focused on issues directly related to NSN’s operations, from occupational safety at project sites and the use of energy and resources to green buildings and solar power systems that NSN has implemented for its clients.

ESG Needs to Be Viewed Through Everyday Work

At the workshop, Ms. Nguyen Cam Chi – Director of Sustainability Consulting, MCG Management Consulting, shared practical perspectives on ESG and the requirements businesses need to prepare for as they develop their sustainability management systems.

One of the key points emphasized was that ESG is not solely the responsibility of a specialized department. The data and information required for ESG assessment, management, and reporting come from multiple departments and activities across an organization.

For NSN, areas such as occupational safety, energy, environmental management at project sites, materials management, employee training, and corporate governance can all form part of the Company’s broader sustainability picture.

Therefore, raising ESG awareness across the organization is an important step toward enabling NSN to gradually build a data foundation and practices aligned with market requirements.

As part of the workshop, NSN employees also participated in a short survey and shared perspectives based on their own work. These insights provide valuable input for NSN as it continues to refine its ESG direction.

From What We Have Today to the Next Steps

NSN already has practical experience related to sustainable development, including the delivery of projects with green building certifications, solar power systems for clients, occupational safety initiatives, and management systems maintained in accordance with international standards.

However, sustainable development is a long-term process. Building ESG at NSN is not simply about consolidating activities that have already been carried out. It also involves systematizing data, identifying material issues, strengthening governance, and progressively enhancing the Company’s ability to meet the requirements of clients and partners.

The workshop was therefore considered an important starting point in raising awareness and building greater internal alignment across NSN on ESG.

Going forward, NSN will continue to work with relevant parties to further develop its sustainability roadmap while gradually building an appropriate data foundation and management system.

Sustainable development is not a short-term campaign. It is a process through which NSN continues to understand what it already has, measure what it is doing, and proactively improve for the future.
