Application of AI in Health, Safety, and Environment Training - Safety Staff's Breakthrough Solution

In the age of technology 4.0, the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has become a major trend in many industries, requiring businesses to constantly innovate and change to produce optimal solutions. NSN is not an exception to this trend. In this article, we will learn about a unique initiative of Safety Officer Nguyen Minh Duc, who has developed a solution for using AI to improve the efficiency of construction site training.

Developed from project experience

As a general contractor for industrial and renewable energy construction projects, training for NSN's personnel and subcontractors takes place regularly. The number of staff depends on the work item and scale of the project. There are some big projects with safety training sessions for up to 500 people. Workers of subcontractors often change according to work items, so safety training for each group of workers took a long time.

Online training is convenient but meets many difficulties in controlling the quality of workers' lectures. Workers sometimes suspend their accounts, do not attend courses and do not ensure that all employees have smart devices.

Direct on-site training is a popular method to help solve the problems of online training, but it comes with interrupted construction time, each safety employee has their own way of training and communicating. Based on these factors, Safety Officer Nguyen Minh Duc developed a solution: "Application of AI in Safety, Health and Environment Training."

Solutions for using AI in safety, health and environment training

Application of Text-To-Speech AI API developed by Google and Text-To-Speech AI Service developed by Azure Microsoft to convert pre-prepared training content into narrated content with an inspiring voice.

Projects can be easily implemented even without dedicated Safety personnel on-site, optimizing basic training time with comprehensive training reduced to less than 20 minutes per session (14 topics) instead of about 5-10 minutes per topic as in traditional training, saving approximately 80% - 90% of the total project training time compared to traditional methods.

Training content includes clear illustrative images along with easy-to-understand and quickly memorable narration, minimizing knowledge gaps during the training process. It is easily portable and can be quickly deployed via a USB or accessed remotely through the internet, making it an excellent tool for periodic refresher training and regular knowledge reinforcement for workers and contractors.

By standardizing the quality of training content across NSN projects, this solution also provides substantial support for Safety personnel when conducting specialized training on topics such as electricity, chemicals, fire prevention, etc., optimizing the work for Safety personnel deployed at the project.

Minh Duc's initiative has received high appreciation from the managers and BOD

Realizing that this is an effective and feasible initiative to improve work efficiency and enhance the quality of safety control in projects aimed at "Zero Harm”, the senior managers encouraged Minh Duc to develop and collaborate with the HSE department to complete the solution. On March 26, 2024, NSN's Board of Directors immediately rewarded Minh Duc according to regulations and encouraged creativity throughout the company.

The solution has been applied to some NSN projects. After testing, feedback evaluation and completion, this will be used on all NSN construction sites.
